The presence of weapon in the house implements big responsibility - Okenov

20 October 2021

The head of the Sniping Federation of Kyrgyzstan, Aidar Okenov, spoke about the activities of the organization and about the responsibility a person who owns a weapon should bear.

In an interview with Radio Sputnik Kyrgyzstan, he explained that the Sniping Federation is mainly made up of hunters who would like to hone their long-range shooting skills.

“We are learning how to shoot with rifled weapons at a distance of 100 meters to one and a half kilometers. Pressure, humidity, air temperature - all this affects the trajectory of a bullet. We teach people to shoot accurately, at least so as not to torment animals while hunting. In addition  we are trying to instill in the members of the federation a culture of owning weapons," Okenov said.

In his opinion, the ability to own weapons and having them in the house gives a sense of security, but at the same time imposes a great responsibility on a person.

“When a person buys a weapon, he should first of all think not about what advantages it gives, but about what responsibility he has. We teach people to handle a gun as if it is loaded, even if it is not.  If you take the statistics, professional shooters are very law-abiding people, and I have not heard that they got into any kind of trouble related to the use of weapons," Okenov said.

He added that the Sniping Federation is developing and this year even competitions were held, the participants of which were not only athletes, but also law enforcement officers of Kyrgyzstan.
